The Friday Miscellanea

Feb 06, 2009

Some totally random catchup items as we continue to wait for the podcasts to be edited, DAFNA.

(“Dafna” is either [1] “Dafna Pleban,” our editorial assistant, or [2] the acronym of a sophisticated Kryptonian missile defense system. Your choice.)

* 2009 New York Comicon this weekend. Unfortunately, something’s come up and I couldn’t be there in person, but BOOM! Publicity Manager Chip Mosher arranged a video announcement by me that (a) will be played at the BOOM! panel, and (b) I still haven’t seen, so let’s hope Chip edited out the part where I called Erik Larsen a nut. If you’re attending the show, BOOM! is at booth #1313. Pop quiz for the forum: House number of the Munsters or the Addams Family? No fair Googling.

* Andrew Card, former Bush chief of staff, is grabbing headlines by insisting that Obama’s disrespecting his office by working in shirtsleeves. Leave it to the Bush admin to steer us towards the things that really matter. Fuck you, Andrew Card. If Obama does his job, I don’t care if he wears a pith helmet and snowshoes. I’m fairly certain hardcore conservatives were griping about “disrespect “ the same way back in 1961 when JFK refused to wear a hat in public, but it didn’t seem to stop him from averting the Cuban Missile Crisis. Quick quiz. Which of these qualities makes you a better President: (A) A strict office dress code, or (B) respecting the rule of law and not using the Constitution as a Kleenex?

* P. Craig Russell is one of the most justifiably celebrated illustrators in comics, having worked with (among others) Neil Gaiman, Michael Moorcock, Mike Mignola and on many excellent projects all his own. Turns out he’s been doing some storytelling-tutorial videos on his site, and they’re highly recommended: http://www.pcraigrussell.net/archives/category/videos

Click on over to the Waid Forums, register and post away. Everyone’s welcome. (Until they become rude and abusive. Five…four…three…)
