Quick Update

May 08, 2009

It’s not that I don’t have anything to say about the craft of comics this week–it’s that I’m too busy writing them to get my thoughts together, so thanks for your patience as I try to wrap up scripting THE UNKNOWN.

In place of my usual weekly lecture, I will instead refer you to the most invaluable books on writing in my library, all of which are available at good brick-and-mortar and online bookstores and all of which will make you a better writer every time you read them no matter how often you read them:

Adventures in the Screen Trade by William Goldman, an invaluable primer on how to tell a story;

Einstein’s Dreams by Alan Lightman, full of short little vignettes that will fire your imagination, best ten bucks you’ll spend this month, I swear;

and Making Comics by Scott McCloud, which contains a ton of useful comics-craft information.

Give a hoot, read a book.
